Hello and welcome to our brand new blog. We’re excited to join the vibrant community of folks who are blogging and reading about Diabetes.
My name is Mandy and I’ll be the main blogger on this site. I’d like to start by introducing myself, telling my own diagnosis story, and then discussing how I came to want to blog about my experiences with Insul Opt.
During my first pregnancy 2 ½ years ago, I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes. Luckily, I was able to control the GD with exercise and diet. I had my daughter and was immediately told I could drink as much juice as I wanted and eat whatever I wanted. I breathed a sigh of relief and enjoyed those first few exhausting months of motherhood, happily scarfing down muffins at 2 in the morning in between breast-feedings.
Well, a few months later a friend told me I should check my blood sugar occasionally just to be sure I was in the clear. At first I resisted, but lo and behold I checked and sure enough, my sugars were still high. Over the course of the next few months, my readings kept elevating, until my pancreas pretty much sputtered to a stop. Hello Type-1 Diabetes!
So I’ve been on insulin for about a year and a half now. I started with Lantus and frequent injections of Novolog, using a pen. Now I use an Animas pump. Both were adjustments, but overall the pump has been working out great for me. I like the convenience of not having to carry around insulin pens and syringes, and also of being able to give tiny bolus doses or longer-lasting boluses.
I used to pride myself on being low maintenance, but with a toddler and diabetes, those days are gone. I’m a super-glorious high maintenance gal now, and will embrace that and make it mine! Or at least keep trying…
Here’s the thing: I try to be a very good diabetic. I check my sugars often, exercise, eat a fairly nutritious and carb-controlled diet (usually), and more often than not it’s still a guessing game. So many factors sneak in there like sickness, monthly hormone cycles, stress, sleep duration, to keep those sugars going up and down in an unpredictable roulette-style spin.
My first A1c was 6.6, not bad. Then it crept to 6.7, then 6.8, and my latest was a whopping 7.2! Now, I do a pretty good job of keeping it all in perspective and not getting too attached to the numbers. I just try to stick to the plan, so to speak, and stay positive. But at the same time, there’s no denying the long-term risks associated with elevated glucose levels/high A1c’s.
Far be it from me to look a gift syringe in the tip, and thank heck for insulin, but insulin is not enough! Yes, it helps process glucose and without it all us diabetics would be nothing but dead legends, but it is not the be-all, end-all treatment for diabetes. What about the long-term cellular and vascular damage caused by high glucose levels?
And what about all those people with Type 2 who are on oral meds or a combo of oral meds and insulin? Those meds are helpful because they help control the blood sugar, but let’s face, most or all of them have some pretty serious side effects, including cardiovascular damage! So out of all of the mainstream treatments out there, nothing is designed to help the body fight, reverse or heal the damage caused by high blood sugars, they are only there to help regulate the blood sugar. And we all know that is sometimes or always hit or miss, no matter how hard we try…
So I started looking for a natural product that could minimize the long-term damage to my body. I looked into Ayurveda, naturopathy, herbal and Chinese medicine, and then I came across Insul Opt. This product was formulated by Dr. Robert Foster, a Harvard and Stanford educated PhD in chemistry. Dr. Foster’s life was profoundly changed when his 8-year old daughter was diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes. He worked with his brother, a practicing endocrinologist, to come up with an all-natural supplement designed specifically to minimize the long-term damage caused by high blood sugars in diabetics.
It turns out Dr. Foster and the company that manufactures Insul Opt are in my hometown, so I actually scheduled a visit. I asked a lot of questions, including what kind of benefits and risks should I expect if I decided to take Insul Opt.
I won’t list all those questions and answers here, because I fear this first post is already growing overly long, but I will add new posts with this information. The short answer is: Insul Opt will help regulate blood sugar levels, and will also help with cell regeneration, anti-inflammation and improving the vascular system. Some of these improvements are hard to feel on a daily basis, but can be shown in improved lipid panels, lower blood pressure and improved A1c levels.
I was satisfied with what I heard and so I started taking the product. This blog will serve as a kind of diary for me as I begin (hopefully) to see real results with Insul Opt. We hope it will also become a forum for people who are interested in discussing holistic issues related to diabetes and for people who take Insul Opt to share their experiences.
