My First EECP Session

I recently wrote a post about EECP (Enhanced External Counter Pulsation). This machine is mostly used by Cardiologists as a treatment for people with heart disease. Dr. Foster did a clinical trial using EECP as a treatment for Type 2 Diabetics and found improvements across the board in blood pressure, cholesterol, arterial plaque and blood sugar levels.
So yesterday, I got my first chance to try it out for myself. Dr. Foster had mentioned that it is a relaxing endeavor, where people get to listen to music and often fall asleep. Well, let’s just say I was a little unprepared for the intensity of the treatment…
After lying down on the table, he put long cuffs on my thighs and three EKG sensors on my torso. The cuffs began contracting in exact counter-pulsation to my heartbeat. My resting heart rate was 60, so when I exhaled, the constrictions were paced more slowly than when I inhaled. To my surprise, my heart rate increased quite a bit on the inhale, so the machine would start constricting like crazy, and then I would exhale and get a bit of a break.
But I will say that those cuffs have quite a grip! When it was all done, Dr. Foster asked if I found it relaxing. “Not quite,” was my response. He chuckled and said “I bet after two sessions you’ll start falling asleep on the table during the treatment.” I found and find that hard to believe, but will keep you posted.
I did notice my blood sugars were very good for the rest of the day. Apparently, with weekly treatments, I can expect a much better A1C and better blood panels as well (cholesterol, triglycerides).
EECP, like exercise and Herbal Supplements are amazingly powerful ways for Diabetics to turn the tables on Diabetes and stop complications before they even start.
Let us know if you’re interested in trying EECP treatment, and we would be happy to help you find a machine in your area.
